I have 1524 customer letters! This one was sent by Colin Zealley after they had been driving around a few weeks in their new Kia Picanto

Colin says…
car“My first attempt to lease a car through you was sabotaged when Rover went out of business; but the experience was good enough that I didn’t even bother to look for other suppliers when I decided to try again recently.

It was a good decision – no complaints at all, excellent service all round.”

Kia PicantoEditor Note: Colin, the bloody mis-management of Rover caused everyone a load of pain. Your new Kia Picanto will do a great job for a car that’s less than £100 (ex VAT) per month. Glad you are happy (at last)! Thanks for letter – Ling

Possible enviro banding change on the Mercedes GLA Class

The impact of CO2 is important. I always compare my figures with the Government data, so when it changes, like on this Mercedes GLA Class Petrol Automatic, I note it here in my blog.

Environmental Data

You need to insure the car fully comp, as normal with any new car. The car can be used for any purpose, or driven by anyone you choose. In effect, it is your own brand new car for the length of the hire period. You can even take it abroad. I tried to drive car to China once. That was damn big mistake. I suggest you do not use contract hire car for this.

Mercedes GLA Class

Christopher Macgowan, Chief Executive of the SMMT wrote to me and said “Ling, thank you very much for giving us the opportunity at SMMT to look at the impact of the (environmental) label in a different media from the car showroom. We have always been aware that like the “white goods” label on which the car label is based, that its merits extend beyond the car showroom. In addition we know that the earlier in the buying process the purchaser thinks about low CO2 emissions the more consideration it will be given in the buying process. The industry is committed to seeing the environmental credentials of cars being widely publicised and the SMMT will continue to provide leadership in this area; as with all new initiatives in a huge industry like ours, it takes a bit of time to become widespread and universally available but please be in no doubt that the SMMT and I personally are determined to see the widespread use of the new label.”

The CO2 for this Mercedes GLA Class Petrol Automatic is better than it was, at just 144g/km. It is a bit different if you look at a slightly different trim level.

Environmental Data

My Mercedes GLA Class 1.6 GLA 180 Urban Edition 16v (122bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1595cc Petrol Automatic (7 Speed) Petrol Automatic gearbox is only £360.00 inc VAT per month with 3 months initial payment, followed by 11 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. As I can’t tell what type of customer you are (business or private), I can’t display the price any other way but to show VAT seperately (sorry!).

MercedesThis price on my Mercedes GLA Class includes full road tax for the length of the contract, on all of my cars and vans! Free delivery to your home or work and free collection from you at the end! £360.00 inc VAT per month is based on you driving 10,000 miles per annum, but higher mileages are usually available at a small extra cost. If you go over the allocated miles, you can pay a small excess mileage charge, usually between 3p and 15p per mile.

Failure to show fuel consumption labels on new cars on display, or to make available to potential buyers the results of the fuel consumption tests as listed in this booklet, render dealers liable on conviction to a fine of up to 5,000. The same penalty exists for anyone who does not include all the appropriate test results in promotional literature. Trading Standards enforce point of sale information and should be contacted if you have concerns in this area. The Vehicle Certification Agency enforce the provision of information in advertising and promotional literature.

Fuel economy and CO2 change on my Kia Picanto

I am Ling and my Kia Picanto 1.25 X-Line 16v (83bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1248cc Petrol Automatic (4 Speed) Petrol Automatic has a new CO2 value today. So I post it here in my blog. I always update very fast. Can anyone name another website that can do this stuff as fast as me?

Most Ling cars are on 2 year deals or less, so you should only need an oil and filter service (you won’t need brake pads etc unless you drive like German idiot Schumacker). You just pay this service yourself, OK? Some service intervals (eg. Renault) now at 18,000 miles! You can have this small service done at any cheap VAT registered garage, just use quality parts. Your car is fully covered by the manufacturer warranty (use franchise dealer for this, free), and you get manufacturer’s AA/RAC type cover.

Environmental Data

Back to CO2 – there is no easy technical way to deal with CO2. The best way to reduce it and the other emissions is to use the car only when it is necessary and to walk or use public transport where possible. When you are choosing a vehicle and you have selected the most appropriate class of vehicle for your needs, choose the most fuel efficient vehicle in that group. This is where a franchised new car dealer really struggles. Is a Ford dealer really going to advise a customer to buy a lower-polluting Renault Megane? Did you know the fuel consumption of similar size cars can vary as much as 45%?

Kia Picanto

I am pleased to say that the CO2 for the Kia Picanto Petrol Automatic is now 124g/km. If you chose a different trim level, the CO2 would change, but not by much.

My Kia Picanto 1.25 X-Line 16v (83bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1248cc Petrol Automatic (4 Speed) Petrol Automatic gearbox is only £193.87 inc VAT per month with 3 months initial payment, followed by 35 payments on direct debit. The external noise emitted by passenger cars has been controlled since 1929 when the Motor Cars (Excessive Noise) regulations were introduced. New cars are now required to meet Europe-wide noise limits. These have been progressively reduced from 82 decibels (dB(A)) in 1978 to the current limit of 74 dB(A) established in 1996. This means it would take 7 new vehicles to make the same amount of noise as a vehicle that just meets the pre-1978 limits.

EU Directive 1999/94/EC requires new car fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data to be made freely available to consumers. Car dealers are required to have a label showing the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of each different model on display, either on or near the vehicle. Fuel consumption figures will be expressed both in litres per 100 kilometres (l/100 km) and in miles per gallon (mpg). The label will list the figures achieved in urban, extra-urban and combined conditions separately. From September of 2005, dealers had the option to produce a new “comparative” label. The new label shows the mandatory Fuel Consumption and CO2 figures mentioned previously, alongside information about the appropriate VED band for the vehicle. The new label is similar in design to the energy efficiency labels that appear on many ‘white goods’, such as fridge freezers

Ford Fiesta Lease delivered to Richard Day in Christchurch

Letter head
Visit my full letters page click here

I have 1524 customer letters! This one was sent by Richard Day after they had been driving around a few weeks in their new Ford Fiesta

Richard says…
carLings Cars is a Car Leasing company that I stumbled upon when researching car leasing as a solution to my transfer to Swanwick this year. I figured that commuting 70 miles a day would not be good for my poor Micra so my options were to buy a new/second-hand car/lease a car or win one!! (Yeah right). After calculating the cost of a new car with depreciation, mileage, wear and tear I looked into the second-hand market but this still meant losing out with a less likely resale after a few years with high mileage, MOT costs and possible mechanical problems because of the age of vehicle.

When I saw the prices and what is included in leasing a car at Lings Cars I decided to go for that option. Included in my 3 year deal is road tax, full Ford 3 year warranty, Ford Assist Home and breakdown cover, no MOT required, delivery, documentation, some car mats that Ling threw in and a First Aid kit oh and loads of Chinese sweets and noodles she sent me!!! My 3 year lease is for 18,000 miles pa included but this can be agreed from as little as 10,000 to 20,000pa. I get a brand new car with all the benefits but don’t have to worry about selling it in three years time or MOTs or putting a high mileage on the car I can simply choose another new one and start again!
Ling Valentine is the proprietor of this company and you may of seen her on Dragon’s Den a few years ago where she actually turned down an offer shared between two of the Dragons because they wanted a higher percentage stake in her company.

image
Rich’s actual new Fiesta in real life! – COOL!!! – Ling

Her website is so crazy and full of funny stuff that you would think at first that this is dodgy company. I ignored the site many times before checking out the prices and doing some research to find a very competitive and genuine company. Her personal lease pricing always includes VAT and there are no hidden charges, something that she hates about most other car leasing websites.

After looking at different options and then getting an initial quote a secure area is set up where you can message Ling personally or one of her staff to simply ask anything you like, which is usually answered within a few minutes depending on the question. From then on you are constantly kept up to date with the progress of your chosen vehicle until delivery. I have got to know Ling really well since I first started enquiring about my car and I will still keep in touch with her until I lease my next car! How’s that for a personal service!

So I can confidently recommend her website as I know from research her prices are very competitive, her service is outstanding and really funny too! From the start of the whole process I have received outstanding customer service, help and support not to mention the car arriving in outstanding condition on exactly the time agreed and at an amazing low monthly payment.

It’s worth checking out her website even just for the funny stuff on there!

You write such a beautiful description for new customers to read, thanks, and this is also pinned up on the Air Traffic notice board! I really had a great time dealing with you and we have a lot in common, because one of my toys is a microlight. Petrol consumption and my Mazda 6 Estate

Changing this information for the Mazda 6 Estate 2.2 d SE-L Nav+ 16v (150bhp) Estate 5dr 2191cc Diesel Manual (6 Speed) Diesel Manual, I noticed most other websites still use old values. You should trust that I work harder to give you the correct info!

Sometimes you must resign yourself to fact that dealer will look after a retail customer first. Your delivery might be slightly delayed because they are fussing over a damn retail customer (paying 1000’s more than you), and you have to learn to relax. Most times these delays never happen, but sometimes they do, so I’m just preparing your brain and giving you tip.

Environmental Data

Compared to improvements in the emissions of toxic pollutants, there has been less progress on reducing CO2 from cars. For a given type of fuel the CO2 emissions of a car are directly proportional to the quantity of fuel consumed. Until recently the average fuel consumption of new cars was unchanged relative to that in the mid 1980s. This was because while engines have become more efficient over this period, average vehicle mass has increased due to additional features to meet crash safety requirements and the widespread addition of features such as power assisted steering and air conditioning. However, there are signs that in the last few years average fuel consumption has begun to drop in response to voluntary agreements by vehicle manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions.

The CO2 for this Mazda 6 Estate Diesel Manual is better than it was, at just 119g/km. It is a bit different if you look at a slightly different trim level.

Hybrid vehicles combine an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and battery. There are various ways in which hybrid vehicles can operate. For example the electric motor can be used to provide additional power during acceleration and high load conditions. The battery can then be recharged by the internal combustion engine or from energy absorbed during braking, or, in some cases, from an external electrical supply. Hybrid vehicles offer reduced fuel consumption and CO2 with potentially some reduction in emissions of local pollutants.

Mercedes-Benz told me “Mercedes-Benz dealerships have a limited amount of space available in which to advertise. However, all of the dealership’s websites do include a link to the main site Mercedes-Benz.com where anyone in the world with an interest in obtaining specific environmental information about any Mercedes-Benz vehicle can easily find it. Environmental information is also available in brochures that can be obtained at any dealership.” Well, perhaps Head Office at Mercedes-Benz restricts the amount of web space available to each dealer? It’s amazing that they use “space” as an argument for not displaying this info online on each dealer’s site. Web-space is virtually unlimited! A customer should not need to go to World Headquaters to find it (and even then it is not comparative)!

For this brand new Mercedes X Class Double Cab Pick-up Diesel Automatic, the latest CO2 figure is just 150g/km. When I chose this trim, it was because I have a few of these available. Different trims will have different CO2.

The other pollutants from petrol, diesel and alternative fuel engines are mainly Carbon Monoxide, Oxides of Nitrogen, un-burnt Hydrocarbons and fine particles. The first three are gases and are invisible. Fine particles are usually invisible although in certain operating conditions diesels will produce visible particles, appearing as smoke. Petrol engines will also produce visible particles if they are burning engine oil or running rich, for example, following a cold start. Unlike CO2, emissions of these pollutants are not directly linked to fuel consumption. Pollutant levels are more dependant on vehicle technology and the state of maintenance of the vehicle.
