I have 1524 customer letters! This one was sent by Lisa Smith after they had been driving around a few weeks in their new Renault Clio

Lisa says…
CarHi Ling,

Sorry that I haven’t got back to you until now, but of course I have been very busy at work! And also driving my new Clio.

I would just like to say a big “THANK YOU”.

The gentleman delivering my car phoned at 930am on the morning of delivery to say he was leaving and on his way. My car arrived a few hours later in pristine condition, apart from the casualties on the front of the car! (dead flies!). The gentleman was considerate and let me take my time to check over the car thoroughly. Due to the rails strikes I managed to find a station where he could get home, and even gave him a lift as it was only 10 mins away!

I read some comments on your website and would like to state the following:-

If you look at the car colours on the car makers site, don’t, best thing is to go to the dealer and see the car colour in the flesh, that’s what I did, as the colour on Renault‘s website does not look like the colour of the car you get! I love the colour of my car – Monaco Blue! Also go test drive before you lease, I managed to drive the model that I wanted, so knew exactly what I was getting, as the car makers brochures aren’t always helpful.

Everything went smoothly and I look forward to the next 36 months of driving.

Thanks once again Ling – fantastic service!

Renault ClioEditor Note: Lisa, well what a fantastic detailed letter. I publish it all, as it will really help other people who are new to contract hire and leasing. So pleased you are happy with the Clio, these new models are great cars. Dealers get very upset with me by suggesting that customers go and test drive a new car at a dealer – so I’ll leave that suggestion to Lisa 🙂 – Ling

Petrol consumption and my Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage 1.7 CRDi 16v (113bhp) 2 ISG Station Wagon 5dr 1685cc Diesel Manual has new environmental information today. I have updated! Pay attention, you are too slow 🙂

How to explain this without it seeming like the usual sales talk? … I don’t know, but I will try to make this clear… You know, you are not buying this car. Only renting it for (probably 1 or 2 or 3 years). So you are not stuck with it forever. So, you have no real risk. You are going to pay someone some money to run a car however you look at it.

Kia Sportage

I also took the decision to code into HTML and make available for printing the “Comparative Labels” or the “fridge” type labels you see at Comet and Curry’s on new fridges and washing machines. No other UK website bothers (or wants) to give their customers this information. One day they will be forced to do this. I have made my code freely available for any dealer who wants to use it, and published a tutorial on how to include this in their websites. This was published on the Automotive Management forum on 26th October 2006. To date, no dealer has contacted me to use my code.

I am pleased to say that the CO2 for the Kia Sportage Diesel Manual is now 119g/km. If you chose a different trim level, the CO2 would change, but not by much.

Environment

My Kia Sportage 1.7 CRDi 16v (113bhp) 2 ISG Station Wagon 5dr 1685cc Diesel Manual gearbox is only £282.74 inc VAT per month with 3 months initial payment, followed by 35 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. As I can’t tell what type of customer you are (business or private), I can’t display the price any other way but to show VAT seperately (sorry!).

KiaThis price on my Kia Sportage includes full road tax for the length of the contract, on all of my cars and vans! Free delivery to your home or work and free collection from you at the end! £282.74 inc VAT per month is based on you driving 10,000 miles per annum, but higher mileages are usually available at a small extra cost. If you go over the allocated miles, you can pay a small excess mileage charge, usually between 3p and 15p per mile.

Environmental Data

Winning the environmental award (2008 Best Environmentalist in the car industry) was very pleasing for me as it meant I was being recognised for my hard work. I’m the the ONLY new car supplier to display and promote environmental info for ALL new cars, on the web! Please note I have pioneered availability of environmental information on the internet. Using the internet to research and buy new cars is the most environmentally friendly method, by miles.

Hello Ling, I found your site one of the most interesting and funny on the web. What a great concept, if only there were more people like you! Why don’t you have a recipe of the month? Your quiz was too hard for me and your teeshirt is cool.

Because of the need to maintain strict comparability of results achieved by the standard tests they cannot be fully representative of real life driving conditions. Firstly, it is obviously not practicable to test each individual new car; thus only one production car is tested as being representative of the model and may therefore produce a better or worse result than another similar vehicle. Secondly, there are infinite variations in driving styles and in road, car and weather conditions, all of which can have a bearing on the results achieved. For these reasons the fuel consumption achieved on the road will not necessarily be the same as the official test results.

Lower CO2 on my Mercedes GLC

Everyone moans that things go up and up and up. Well, the CO2 on the Mercedes GLC 2.1 CDi 4Matic 16v (170bhp) GLC 220d AMG Line 4WD Station Wagon (5-seat) 5dr 2143cc Diesel Automatic has just come down! What a result! This post is to let you know.

Sometimes you must resign yourself to fact that dealer will look after a retail customer first. Your delivery might be slightly delayed because they are fussing over a damn retail customer (paying 1000’s more than you), and you have to learn to relax. Most times these delays never happen, but sometimes they do, so I’m just preparing your brain and giving you tip.

My customers agree to adhere to a fixed mileage allowance (usually 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 miles per annum) and they are charged for “excess” miles. This means they are far more aware of the costs involved in unneccessary journeys in their new cars. To a certain extent, my customers will consider “is my journey really neccessary?” and “would it be cheaper to do this long trip on the train?”.

The CO2 for this Mercedes GLC Diesel Automatic is better than it was, at just 129g/km. It is a bit different if you look at a slightly different trim level.

My Mercedes GLC 2.1 CDi 4Matic 16v (170bhp) GLC 220d AMG Line 4WD Station Wagon (5-seat) 5dr 2143cc Diesel Automatic gearbox is only £419.99 inc VAT per month with 3 months initial payment, followed by 35 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. The other pollutants from petrol, diesel and alternative fuel engines are mainly Carbon Monoxide, Oxides of Nitrogen, un-burnt Hydrocarbons and fine particles. The first three are gases and are invisible. Fine particles are usually invisible although in certain operating conditions diesels will produce visible particles, appearing as smoke. Petrol engines will also produce visible particles if they are burning engine oil or running rich, for example, following a cold start. Unlike CO2, emissions of these pollutants are not directly linked to fuel consumption. Pollutant levels are more dependant on vehicle technology and the state of maintenance of the vehicle.

The Mercedes C-Class Coupe is a Green car yet?

If you are interested in CO2 stuff, then read this. I have a new figure for the Mercedes C-Class Coupe 2.1 CDi 16v (170bhp) C220d AMG Line Coupe 2dr 2143cc Diesel 9G Tronic Plus Automatic and I am updating it on my website now.

Have you ever rented a self-drive car for a day or a week? Well, Contract Hire is exactly the same, just for a longer period. Easy, isn’t it? It’s available for businesses or for private individuals. You may have seen me turning down investment on Dragon’s Den! Read on to understand how it works. Occasionally, I can supply PCP, leasing and lease hire (but not often). If you’re reading this because you are unsure if you should use LINGsCARS.com, have a look at my 900+ customer letters.

Mercedes-Benz told me “Mercedes-Benz dealerships have a limited amount of space available in which to advertise. However, all of the dealership’s websites do include a link to the main site Mercedes-Benz.com where anyone in the world with an interest in obtaining specific environmental information about any Mercedes-Benz vehicle can easily find it. Environmental information is also available in brochures that can be obtained at any dealership.” Well, perhaps Head Office at Mercedes-Benz restricts the amount of web space available to each dealer? It’s amazing that they use “space” as an argument for not displaying this info online on each dealer’s site. Web-space is virtually unlimited! A customer should not need to go to World Headquaters to find it (and even then it is not comparative)!

Environmental Data

The different fuels have different merits from an environmental perspective. Compared to petrol, diesel vehicles have significantly lower CO2 emissions per kilometre traveled because of the higher efficiency of diesel engines and hence have a lower impact on climate change. Diesel vehicles also emit lower levels of CO and HC than equivalent petrol vehicles. However diesel engines emit greater levels of NOx and Particles than new petrol vehicles. As mentioned earlier, emissions of such pollutants are an air quality issue, particularly in urban areas.

Emission figures on the Mazda 2

Updating the Mazda 2 1.5 i 16v (75bhp) SE+ Hatchback 5dr 1496cc Petrol Manual quickly is brilliant because Google loves to use me as the choice for listing these cars.

This is very difficult for some people to control because of the damn human nature. But try to look at your car as a simple consumer goods, like a fridge or microwave. Who would get excited by a microwave…? Because these cars are so very, very cheap, often dealer makes just a tiny profit. Almost like handling fee. Me too. I work on numbers of cars, like airline ticket consolidators sell tickets.

Environmental Data

The external noise emitted by passenger cars has been controlled since 1929 when the Motor Cars (Excessive Noise) regulations were introduced. New cars are now required to meet Europe-wide noise limits. These have been progressively reduced from 82 decibels (dB(A)) in 1978 to the current limit of 74 dB(A) established in 1996. This means it would take 7 new vehicles to make the same amount of noise as a vehicle that just meets the pre-1978 limits.

New Oxides of Nitrogen data on my Mazda MX-5

I am simply faster than any other car sales website in changing these Mazda MX-5 1.5 i (131bhp) SE Convertible 2dr 1496cc Petrol Manual details to reflect the latest info. No one can keep up with me. Often the manufacturer websites are out of date!

Sometimes new car will be delivered on a car transporter, other times it will be driven to you. Either way, I always ask you check mileage on delivery. Write mileage on delivery sheet (before signing!!!) and keep a copy. At the end of contract, you can then subtract these miles from any “excess mileage” you may have incurred (extra miles over contract amount). This is easy if you have kept a copy of the delivery note. This is hard if you have lost it.

Mazda MX-5

I am determined that LINGsCARS.com will go further than anyone else in this industry to exceed the legal minimum information disclosure that 99% of UK franchised car dealers refuse to go beyond (and hide behind, IMHO). So, I make sure that at-a-glance CO2, fuel economy and the coloured “greeness indicator bars” are displayed clearly on my homepage car listings for easy comparison purposes.

I have taken a typical model of this car from my website – the Mazda MX-5 Petrol Manual. For this car, the CO2 is now just 139g/km. Other trim levels might differ slightly.

My Mazda MX-5 1.5 i (131bhp) SE Convertible 2dr 1496cc Petrol Manual gearbox is only £224.22 inc VAT per month with 3 months initial payment, followed by 23 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. EU Directive 1999/94/EC requires new car fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data to be made freely available to consumers. Car dealers are required to have a label showing the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of each different model on display, either on or near the vehicle. Fuel consumption figures will be expressed both in litres per 100 kilometres (l/100 km) and in miles per gallon (mpg). The label will list the figures achieved in urban, extra-urban and combined conditions separately. From September of 2005, dealers had the option to produce a new “comparative” label. The new label shows the mandatory Fuel Consumption and CO2 figures mentioned previously, alongside information about the appropriate VED band for the vehicle. The new label is similar in design to the energy efficiency labels that appear on many ‘white goods’, such as fridge freezers
