How much do I spend on stamps??? It must add up because I send every customer a nice thank-you letter. Daniel Sherratt replied with a letter back to me about the Honda Civic that was delivered, new. Here it is:

Daniel says…
carI was initially worried about leasing a car ‘over the internet’ but I can assure you Ling is the real deal! No hidden costs or terms and her response times are superb. Will be using again. Good delivery, on time, but in need of a good wash.

Honda CivicEditor Note: Car needed a wash because it came from a distance on a bad day. Sorry about that 🙂 Small price to pay for the cheapest Civic in the UK. I screw the suppliers down so hard that they are on the edge cash wise and even a £5 car wash is sometimes too much (poor things) 🙂 Anyway, Dan, great comments in your letter – thanks! – Ling

Change on the Nissan Qashqai

Making your car greener is important, so it is nice when you can do it just by looking at the new Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi N-Connecta [Glass Roof Pack] 8v (115bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1461cc Diesel Manual (6 Speed) Diesel Manual. The CO2 values have changed, making it more attractive.

Most Ling cars are on 2 year deals or less, so you should only need an oil and filter service (you won’t need brake pads etc unless you drive like German idiot Schumacker). You just pay this service yourself, OK? Some service intervals (eg. Renault) now at 18,000 miles! You can have this small service done at any cheap VAT registered garage, just use quality parts. Your car is fully covered by the manufacturer warranty (use franchise dealer for this, free), and you get manufacturer’s AA/RAC type cover.

Environment

Compared to improvements in the emissions of toxic pollutants, there has been less progress on reducing CO2 from cars. For a given type of fuel the CO2 emissions of a car are directly proportional to the quantity of fuel consumed. Until recently the average fuel consumption of new cars was unchanged relative to that in the mid 1980s. This was because while engines have become more efficient over this period, average vehicle mass has increased due to additional features to meet crash safety requirements and the widespread addition of features such as power assisted steering and air conditioning. However, there are signs that in the last few years average fuel consumption has begun to drop in response to voluntary agreements by vehicle manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions.

Working it out from the tables, the CO2 is just 110g/km for the Nissan Qashqai Diesel Manual. There are a few cars in this range, so different specs will give slightly different CO2 values.

Environmental Data

My Nissan Qashqai 1.5 dCi N-Connecta [Glass Roof Pack] 8v (115bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1461cc Diesel Manual (6 Speed) Diesel Manual gearbox is only £239.81 inc VAT per month with 6 months initial payment, followed by 35 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. As I can’t tell what type of customer you are (business or private), I can’t display the price any other way but to show VAT seperately (sorry!).

NissanThis price on my Nissan Qashqai includes full road tax for the length of the contract, on all of my cars and vans! Free delivery to your home or work and free collection from you at the end! £239.81 inc VAT per month is based on you driving 10,000 miles per annum, but higher mileages are usually available at a small extra cost. If you go over the allocated miles, you can pay a small excess mileage charge, usually between 3p and 15p per mile.

Because of the need to maintain strict comparability of results achieved by the standard tests they cannot be fully representative of real life driving conditions. Firstly, it is obviously not practicable to test each individual new car; thus only one production car is tested as being representative of the model and may therefore produce a better or worse result than another similar vehicle. Secondly, there are infinite variations in driving styles and in road, car and weather conditions, all of which can have a bearing on the results achieved. For these reasons the fuel consumption achieved on the road will not necessarily be the same as the official test results.

Possible enviro banding change on the Mercedes A Class

The impact of CO2 is important. I always compare my figures with the Government data, so when it changes, like on this Mercedes A Class Petrol Manual, I note it here in my blog.

Mercedes A Class

How to explain this without it seeming like the usual sales talk? … I don’t know, but I will try to make this clear… You know, you are not buying this car. Only renting it for (probably 1 or 2 or 3 years). So you are not stuck with it forever. So, you have no real risk. You are going to pay someone some money to run a car however you look at it.

Environment

I have a Master’s Degree in Environmental Quality from Bournemouth Univeristy in 2000, plus a BSc in Applied Chemistry from Jinan University, Guanzhou in 1997. So I have some idea what I am talking about, here. How many other people in the UK motor industry can say that?

Mercedes A Class

I am pleased to say that the CO2 for the Mercedes A Class Petrol Manual is now 129g/km. If you chose a different trim level, the CO2 would change, but not by much.

My Mercedes A Class 1.3 A180 Sport Executive 16v (136bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1325cc Petrol Manual (6 Speed) Petrol Manual gearbox is only £250.10 inc VAT per month with 6 months initial payment, followed by 35 payments on direct debit. As I can’t tell what type of customer you are (business or private), I can’t display the price any other way but to show VAT seperately (sorry!).

One of my best awards was the 2008 best non-franchise environmentalist, awarded by Automotive Management. The web is fickle, I have noticed LINGsCARS.com is the ONLY new car supplier to display and promote environmental info for ALL new cars, on the web! My website won “BEST non-franchised WEBSITE 2007” in the Automotive Management Awards.

Try to avoid using your car for short journeys – use public transport, ride a bicycle or walk.

A lot of people write comments. I get them all the time. This is one of the silliest:

Wow, this website has everything! Nce to see such an informative website lightened up with a great sense of humour. You’re the best, Ling!

Inbetween all my bills and bank statements, I receive customer letters. Here one I pulled out to read from Stewart Collinson, but I actually got it a while ago. It is about the delivery of their Honda Civic.

Stewart says…
CarThank you for supplying my new Honda Civic, it looks and drives just as it should! What an experience, you’re a wild one, still it’s a good way to lease and would be boring if we were all business-like and “stiff” all the time! Delivery was excellent.

Getting letters in the post is really nice. It makes a lovely change from getting email. This one was sent by Jonathan Wells from Houghton Le Spring. Amazingly, the postman didn’t steal it!

Jonathan says…
carLovely dealing with you. You made the process of getting my new Prius easy, understandable and simple to follow. No fuel or carpet mats on delivery.

Toyota PriusEditor Note: Jonathan, well 2 things… 1) Great, glad you enjoyed the experience and now you have a great cheap new Prius :). You were a great customer. 2) The fuel and mats – you are not paying for either of these, if they arrive in the car it’s a bonus. Frankly, I screw the suppliers down on price, so, I am not surprised that there is little fuel and no mats. If they supply these, then I feel let down with myself for not squeezing them a bit harder. I will suggest (hahahaha) that as your Prius drives nicely on the batteries, you don’t actually need fuel 🙂 – Ling

Petrol consumption and my Citroen C3

Fuel is a fortune these days, so when the Citroen C3 1.2 PureTech Flair 12v (110bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1199cc Petrol EAT6 (6 Speed) Petrol Automatic has slightly changed figures, I always blog about it, because my customers say they care.

Most extras fitted onto cars don’t seem to make difference to the resale price in 2-3 years. Metallic paint, leather and aircon actually do, but let’s face it most cars I sell come with aircon and met paint, anyway. So, if you ask for quote to include extras, you can bet life that it will mean you pay the whole cost of the extra thing, divided by the number of rentals.

Environment

Back to CO2 – there is no easy technical way to deal with CO2. The best way to reduce it and the other emissions is to use the car only when it is necessary and to walk or use public transport where possible. When you are choosing a vehicle and you have selected the most appropriate class of vehicle for your needs, choose the most fuel efficient vehicle in that group. This is where a franchised new car dealer really struggles. Is a Ford dealer really going to advise a customer to buy a lower-polluting Renault Megane? Did you know the fuel consumption of similar size cars can vary as much as 45%?

Environment

For this brand new Citroen C3 Petrol Automatic, the latest CO2 figure is just 120g/km. When I chose this trim, it was because I have a few of these available. Different trims will have different CO2.

My Citroen C3 1.2 PureTech Flair 12v (110bhp) Hatchback 5dr 1199cc Petrol EAT6 (6 Speed) Petrol Automatic gearbox is only £180.37 inc VAT per month with 6 months initial payment, followed by 23 payments on direct debit. Business customers, make sure you deduct the VAT, when making decisions. As I can’t tell what type of customer you are (business or private), I can’t display the price any other way but to show VAT seperately (sorry!).

Failure to show fuel consumption labels on new cars on display, or to make available to potential buyers the results of the fuel consumption tests as listed in this booklet, render dealers liable on conviction to a fine of up to 5,000. The same penalty exists for anyone who does not include all the appropriate test results in promotional literature. Trading Standards enforce point of sale information and should be contacted if you have concerns in this area. The Vehicle Certification Agency enforce the provision of information in advertising and promotional literature.

Pollution levels on the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer Estate have changed

I am Ling and my Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer Estate 1.2 PureTech Feel 12v (130bhp) (7 seats) Estate 5dr 1199cc Petrol Manual (6 Speed) Petrol Manual has a new CO2 value today. So I post it here in my blog. I always update very fast. Can anyone name another website that can do this stuff as fast as me?

You run this new car for 12, 18, 24 or 36 months depending on the term, and run it within an agreed mileage limit (usually 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 miles per year, but different mileages are possible). If you exceed the mileage limit, you pay for extra miles at (typically) 4p – 10p per extra mile. This is known as the excess mileage rate.

The VCA (the VCA is the Government designated UK approval authority) wrote to me, saying “I can appreciate the efforts you are making to improve environmental awareness amongst your customers and I’m sure that your approach will be of help to them when deciding on a new car. At this time there is no legal requirement for dealers to display this information on their websites.” Why not? I think there should be! The VCA continued, “Your comments and in depth suggestions on how we might improve the output of the data will be considered alongside any other proposals for change.”

The CO2 for this Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer Estate Petrol Manual is better than it was, at just 116g/km. It is a bit different if you look at a slightly different trim level.

Environment

My Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer Estate 1.2 PureTech Feel 12v (130bhp) (7 seats) Estate 5dr 1199cc Petrol Manual (6 Speed) Petrol Manual gearbox is only £187.36 inc VAT per month with 6 months initial payment, followed by 11 payments on direct debit. The external noise emitted by passenger cars has been controlled since 1929 when the Motor Cars (Excessive Noise) regulations were introduced. New cars are now required to meet Europe-wide noise limits. These have been progressively reduced from 82 decibels (dB(A)) in 1978 to the current limit of 74 dB(A) established in 1996. This means it would take 7 new vehicles to make the same amount of noise as a vehicle that just meets the pre-1978 limits.

carThe speed and efficiency of the service provided by Ling and her team was amazing. My car was delivered within three weeks of making my initial enquiry! Green info has changed on the Mercedes A Class

CO2 affects fuel consumption directly. Less CO2 means less fuel burnt. So, I’m reporting this change on the Mercedes A Class Petrol Manual. Have a look at the new figures.

Have you ever rented a self-drive car for a day or a week? Well, Contract Hire is exactly the same, just for a longer period. Easy, isn’t it? It’s available for businesses or for private individuals. You may have seen me turning down investment on Dragon’s Den! Read on to understand how it works. Occasionally, I can supply PCP, leasing and lease hire (but not often). If you’re reading this because you are unsure if you should use LINGsCARS.com, have a look at my 900+ customer letters.

My customers agree to adhere to a fixed mileage allowance (usually 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 miles per annum) and they are charged for “excess” miles. This means they are far more aware of the costs involved in unneccessary journeys in their new cars. To a certain extent, my customers will consider “is my journey really neccessary?” and “would it be cheaper to do this long trip on the train?”.
