What are they? Super Gatsos that will snap multiple speeders at the same time.
Where will I see them? Being tested and considered
Who owns it? Varies but normally owned by the local safety camera partnership.
How do they work? Gatsometer, the Dutch company behind many of the UK’s speed cameras, has created a new super camera, which has three still cameras, video camera and can zoom in to take detailed pictures of faces. Like the cameras in the familiar yellow housings they use radar to detect the speed of passing vehicles. The cameras are activated when a vehicle crosses a radar beam at excessive speed. It takes photos (faster than an Uzi kills Hammas politicians), of the rear of the vehicle at an interval of 0.5secs. Can detect multiple speeders simultaneously. The ‘MCS’ could be in the UK by next year, according to UK distributor Serco. The Home Office said: ‘The MCS is not type-approved and therefore cannot be used in the UK…at the moment.’ Gatsometer said Multiple MCS systems can be used in combination if required. The MCS features: one camera for each lane, one camera for two lanes, overview camera, digital video event recorder, white or infrared flash.
