Chinese Take-Aways to sell MG Sportscar – SCOOP

Due to reasons of cost it has apparently been decided that the new Chinese MG will NOT be sold via traditional car dealer networks in the UK, reports the Shanghai Morning Star.

Chinese MG Advert Instead, Nanjing chief, Yu Jianwei said: “We are committed to re-building the marque in major markets, with cars supplied from the UK or China, as appropriate.” He continued, “To create efficiencies and reduce costs, the new sports car will not be sold via traditional car dealers, many of the old MG network have disappeared. Instead, we announce distribution is to be from 30,000 etablished Chinese Take-Aways all over the UK.”

Long Live MG So, you will be able to nip down the road and order an MG sports car with your chow mein and chips. Yu Jianwei claimed: “This will silence our critics who say we cannot build a single-car dealer network, and immediately establish MG as the number one for franchise representation in the UK. In addition, most Chinese would prefer to buy a Chinese product, so we have a ready market of over 30,000 independent users, for food delivery. Due to the nature of the mid-engine MG design, it is ideal for keeping food hot, in the car.”

It has been announced last week that Nanjing Automobile will put an initial £10m to be invested in resuming production of the MGF sportscar. This is the Chinese mob (for anyone who has been asleep) who have bought MG Rover, and Longbridge.

Let me put £10m into context. I sell more than £10m of cars every year, on my own.

So, £10m? Big deal. If one Chinese bird can sell this many cars, what difference is that investment going to make in rebuilding the Nanjing/MG brand? Let’s hope that the Chinese take-away plans don’t disappear up the stir-fry chimney, like MG-Rover did, eh? We need to wait and see what the Brummies can slap together from quality Chinese 1950′s Red Star steel pressing plants. I hear the locomotive building works at Da Tong is tendering for the boiler-plate chassis construction.
